A leading port for anchovy fishing for many years with sales of 8,000 tonnes per year, La Turballe implemented France's first Internet-based electronic fish auction system in January 2002.

Internet technology was chosen due to the very specific conditions involved in anchovy sales.

The anchovies are unloaded daily during the fishing campaigns at one of the four port sites that receive the thirty or so La Turballe trawlers, and are presented on the website during the night, after verification and registration of the catches, sorted by boat.

The auctions are launched on the web around 7 o'clock in the morning. Each buyer, agreed by A.C.A.A.P.P. (Association centers Atlantic of the purchasers of the products of the peach), makes purchases based on the prices and information displayed on the computer screen.

Once the lot is awarded, the buyer can take possession of the product stored in the cold storage room and have it loaded onto a refrigerated truck for same day.
